Thick Film Screen-Printed Electrodes (SPEs) represent a widely adopted class of electrochemical sensors designed for portable, cost-effective, and reproducible testing in diverse fields including point-of-care diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food safety, and biosensor development.
These electrodes are fabricated using precision screen-printing techniques, where conductive inks—such as carbon, graphene, gold, platinum, or carbon-mediated composites—are deposited onto rigid ceramic (Al₂O₃) or flexible PET polymer substrates. The printing process yields well-defined three-electrode configurations (working, reference, and auxiliary), optimised for low-volume measurements between 20–50 µL.
MicruX thick film electrodes offer exceptional intra- and inter-electrode reproducibility, making them highly suitable for both research and industrial quality control. They eliminate the need for tedious pre-cleaning and polishing required by traditional electrodes, allowing direct plug-and-play integration with standard portable potentiostats and bipotentiostats.
The electrodes are available in a wide range of materials and configurations—such as single, dual, and mediated variants—to support targeted detection strategies, including enzyme-based sensing and redox-active compound analysis. Custom electrode geometries are also supported to suit specific experimental requirements.
With their low-cost manufacturing, disposability (or reusability, depending on application), and scalable production, thick film screen-printed electrodes are the preferred solution for field-deployable sensors and laboratory research alike. Their small footprint and drop-in compatibility with electrochemical platforms ensure rapid adoption across universities, startups, and diagnostics labs.
ScienceGears proudly distributes MicruX SPEs and accessories, trusted by researchers across Australia and New Zealand for their reliability, performance, and technical support. These electrodes comply with stringent quality control standards, enabling robust results in demanding electroanalytical applications.
