AEM Water Electrolyser Stack Test Station (1–3 kW) — SE1K-AE / SE3K-AE
AEM Water Electrolyser Stack Test Station (1–3 kW) — SE1K-AE / SE3K-AE
Overview
The SE1K-AE / SE3K-AE AEM water electrolyser stack test station is a fully integrated, cabinet-style platform for controlled AEMWE testing from ~1 kW to ~3 kW (800 (W) × 1300 (D) × 2000 (H) mm). It combines power delivery, electrolyte/water handling, gas management and safety logic to support repeatable characterisation and durability protocols for research electrolysers.
Principle of operation (AEMWE)
In an anion exchange membrane water electrolyser, water is reduced at the cathode to form hydrogen and hydroxide ions (OH⁻). OH⁻ migrates through the AEM to the anode, where it is oxidised to form oxygen. The station maintains stable operating conditions (flow, temperature and pressure) while recording electrical and process signals for performance, efficiency and degradation assessment.
Key features & specifications
- Test range: ~1 kW (SE1K-AE) to ~3 kW (SE3K-AE)
- Gas flow measurement: H₂ up to 5 slpm (SE1K) / 15 slpm (SE3K); O₂ up to 2.5 slpm (SE1K) / 7.5 slpm (SE3K)
- MFM measuring range: turndown 100:1
- Automated N₂ purge: MFC-controlled purge on anode and cathode lines
- Liquid loop control: circulation, RT to 95 °C temperature control, level control & alarms, liquid–gas separation
- Gas conditioning: cooling/trap, dryer and dew-point monitoring (or gas filtration options)
- Crossover safety (typical): H₂ in O₂ and O₂ in H₂ concentration detection (e.g., 0–5% or 0–10% vol ranges)
- Back-pressure control: automatic control up to 10 bar or 30 bar (stable regulation)
- Electrical monitoring: nominated cell voltage channels (±5 V/ch)
- Optional diagnostics: AC impedance / HFR capability (e.g., 10 mHz to 10 kHz) for in-situ resistance and health checks
Compatibility & typical applications
- Single-cell and small-stack AEMWE rigs (DI water or alkaline electrolyte configurations depending on the cell design)
- Catalyst/MEA screening, polarisation curves, efficiency mapping, durability testing, pressure operation, gas crossover studies
- Integrates well alongside potentiostats/EIS, gas analysis, and fuel cell / energy test stations within hydrogen labs
