Single Cell AEM Water Electrolyser Test Station (SE300-AE / SE500-AE)
Single Cell AEM Water Electrolyser Test Station (SE300-AE / SE500-AE)
Overview
The SE300-AE / SE500-AE Single Cell Test Station is a floor-standing, fully integrated platform for controlled anion exchange membrane water electrolyser (AEMWE) experiments in university and industrial R&D labs. Rated up to 500 W in a compact cabinet footprint (600 (W) × 1100 (D) × 2000 (H) mm), it combines power delivery, fluid management, gas handling and automated safety control to generate repeatable performance and durability data.
Principle of operation
In AEM water electrolysis, water is reduced at the cathode to form hydrogen and hydroxide ions (OH⁻). OH⁻ migrates through the anion-exchange membrane to the anode, where it is oxidised to produce oxygen and return electrons to the external circuit. The station enables stable operation by managing flow, temperature and pressure while continuously logging electrical and process signals.
Key features and specifications
- Models / test range: SE300-AE (~300 W class) and SE500-AE (~500 W class)
- Gas flow measurement: integrated measurement suitable for single-cell outputs (typ. H₂ up to 1–2 slpm and O₂ up to 0.5–1.2 slpm, depending on model) with high turndown (e.g., 100:1)
- Pressure control: automated back-pressure control (e.g., up to 10 bar, with higher-pressure configurations available); stable PID control for repeatable curves
- Liquid loop: controlled water/electrolyte circulation, RT to ~95 °C temperature control, level monitoring and alarms, filtration, liquid–gas separation and condensation traps
- Gas conditioning: dryer / moisture management with dew-point monitoring, optional line heating
- Safety and diagnostics: automated N₂ purge (anode and cathode), safety interlocks and controlled shutdown logic; optional crossover monitoring (H₂-in-O₂ and O₂-in-H₂)
- Electrochemical options: cell-voltage channel monitoring and optional EIS/HFR measurement (typ. 10 mHz–10 kHz)
Compatibility and typical applications
Designed to integrate with single-cell AEMWE fixtures and common lab metrology (external pressure sensors, gas analysis, and data export to research workflows). Typical uses include MEA and catalyst screening, polarisation and efficiency mapping, water/alkaline management studies, and accelerated durability protocols before scaling to stack-level testing.
