PEM Water Electrolyser Stack Test Station (30–50 kW) (SE30K-PE, SE50K-PE)

Stack Test Station (30–50 kW) — SE30K-PE / SE50K-PE

Overview

The SciTech Korea SE30K-PE and SE50K-PE are fully integrated PEM water electrolyser stack test stations for pilot-scale validation up to 30 kW and 50 kW respectively, supplied and supported in Australia and New Zealand by ScienceGears. The floor-standing cabinet (1400 (W) × 2200 (D) × 2000 (H) mm) combines programmable DC power, deionised-water handling, gas conditioning, safety interlocks and automated data logging in a single platform for repeatable, high-throughput PEMWE testing.

Principle of operation

Deionised water is circulated to the anode of the PEMWE stack. Under controlled current/voltage, water is oxidised to oxygen and protons; protons migrate through the membrane to generate hydrogen at the cathode. The station records electrical, thermal and process variables in real time to quantify polarisation behaviour, efficiency and degradation under realistic operating conditions.

Key specifications and functions

  • Test capacity: up to 50 kW class; configurable stack voltage monitoring (multi-channel, ±5 V/ch).
  • Product-gas metrology: mass-flow measurement up to ~150 slpm H₂ / 75 slpm O₂ (30 kW) and ~250 slpm H₂ / 125 slpm O₂ (50 kW), with 100:1 turndown capability.
  • Water loop control: electrolyte temperature control (RT to ~95 °C), level control with alarms, liquid/gas separation, pump + flow-meter control.
  • Gas conditioning & safety: gas cooling and condensate trap, gas filtration, optional dryer with dew-point monitoring, N₂ purge (anode/cathode), and crossover concentration sensing (H₂-in-O₂ / O₂-in-H₂ ranges).
  • Pressure capability: automated back-pressure control (typ. 10 bar; higher-pressure configurations available).
  • Diagnostics (optional): AC-impedance/HFR capability for PEMWE health tracking (10 mHz to 10 kHz, single-cell or multi-channel options depending on configuration).

Typical applications and integration

Ideal for stack performance mapping, durability protocols, balance-of-plant development, and control-strategy validation for hydrogen production R&D and demonstration systems. Where deeper diagnostics are required, pair with potentiostats/EIS tools and gas analysis for purity and crossover verification, alongside broader energy test-station workflows.

Why ScienceGears

ScienceGears provides local pre-sales scoping, commissioning support and user training to help labs and pilot facilities translate test plans into repeatable datasets, with clear pathways to expand into fuel-cell and other electrochemical energy test stations.
