Water Electrolyser Stack Test Station (30–50 kW) — SE30K-PEAL / SE50K-PEAL

Overview

The SE30K-PEAL and SE50K-PEAL Stack Test Stations are integrated, floor-standing platforms designed to characterise 30–50 kW water electrolysis stacks under controlled and repeatable conditions. The station combines a high-power DC supply with automated fluid handling, gas management and safety interlocks to support PEM, alkaline and AEM research workflows.

Principle of operation

During electrolysis, the station delivers controlled DC power to the stack and continuously measures key process variables that determine efficiency and durability. Product gases are routed through conditioning and measurement modules so researchers can quantify hydrogen/oxygen production, crossover and water management while controlling temperature and pressure for realistic operating conditions.

Key specifications and modules

  • Power class: 30 kW (SE30K-PEAL) and 50 kW (SE50K-PEAL)
  • Station dimensions (W × D × H):
    - SE30K platform: 1400 × 2200 × 2000 mm
    - SE50K platform: 1500 × 3000 × 2200 mm
  • Gas flow measurement (typical):
    - 30 kW: H₂ 150 slpm, O₂ 75 slpm
    - 50 kW: H₂ 250 slpm, O₂ 125 slpm
  • Crossover monitoring: H₂-in-O₂ and O₂-in-H₂ concentration sensing (typical 0–5% / 10% ranges)
  • Automated gas handling: Auto N₂ purge (anode/cathode), drying and dew point monitoring, gas cooling/condensation trap and gas–liquid separation
  • Pressure control: automated back-pressure control (typical 10 bar, 30 bar optional)
  • Electrolyte/water circulation: temperature control (typical RT–95°C), level control and alarms, flow control (pump + flow meter), plus loop configuration suitable for DI water (PEM) or electrolyte circulation (AEM/alkaline; e.g., KOH-based loops)
  • Optional diagnostics: integrated AC impedance / HFR capability for stack health and resistance tracking

Typical applications

  • Efficiency and durability mapping of PEM/AEM/alkaline stacks (polarisation curves, stability holds, load profiles)
  • Gas crossover and safety validation during scale-up
  • Balance-of-plant studies (pressure, temperature, flow and water management optimisation)
