ATP9101 Series Miniature Field Spectroradiometers

Compact VNIR and broadband field spectroradiometers for portable reflectance and remote-sensing measurements

Description

The ATP9101 Series provides compact field spectroradiometers for researchers who need point-based spectral measurements without carrying a larger field instrument. The family ranges from the standard 400–900 nm ATP9101 through the UV-extended ATP9101UV to the wider-band ATP9101W covering 200–1700 nm. The systems are suited to vegetation, soils, water, environmental monitoring and remote-sensing ground-reference work, with different detector, connectivity and operating-platform options according to the required spectral range.

Product Overview

Field measurements often require spectra to be collected repeatedly across multiple locations, target orientations or sample types. The ATP9101 family addresses this requirement with small battery-powered instruments designed for portable, non-contact spectral acquisition.

The standard ATP9101 focuses on visible and near-infrared measurements in a lightweight format controlled through a compatible computer or mobile device. ATP9101UV extends the measurement range into the ultraviolet. ATP9101W adds an InGaAs detector to extend coverage through the shortwave near-infrared to 1700 nm and incorporates a more integrated operating platform.

These are point spectroradiometers rather than hyperspectral cameras. Each measurement represents the target footprint defined by the fitted field-of-view optic and the distance between the instrument and target.

How It Works

Light from the selected target enters the field-of-view optics and is dispersed across the instrument detector. The resulting signal is recorded as intensity versus wavelength.

For reflectance measurements, the target spectrum is normally compared against a characterised diffuse-reflectance reference measured under consistent illumination and viewing geometry. A built-in visible laser assists aiming but is not the broadband source used to generate the reflectance spectrum.

Changing the field-of-view lens changes the angular measurement area. At a fixed working distance, a narrower field of view measures a smaller target footprint and can reduce contamination from soil, shadows or surrounding materials.

Model Selection

Model Spectral range Detector / bands Main selection reason
ATP9101 400–900 nm Linear CMOS, 512 channels Compact standard VNIR field measurements
ATP9101UV 200–1000 nm Linear CMOS, 512 channels Adds ultraviolet coverage
ATP9101W 200–1700 nm CMOS + InGaAs, 1132 bands Wideband UV–VIS–NIR coverage in a miniature format

For ATP9101, the current supplier datasheet specifies spectral resolution below 4 nm at 811 nm and wavelength accuracy of ±0.5 nm. ATP9101UV is specified below 7 nm at 811 nm. ATP9101W is specified at 7 nm at 811 nm and 15 nm at 1530 nm.

Package and Configuration

For the ATP9101/ATP9101UV platform, the documented standard configuration includes:

  • 5 V / 3 A charger
  • 25° field-of-view lens
  • 10 × 10 cm diffuse-reflectance reference panel with nominal 95% reflectance

Alternative 1°, 8° and 15° field-of-view optics and additional optical accessories are available depending on the measurement method.

ATP9101W uses a different wideband architecture and integrated operating platform, so its final supplied package should be confirmed separately when quoting.

Compatibility and Selection Guidance

Choose ATP9101 when the relevant spectral information lies within 400–900 nm and compactness is the main priority.

Choose ATP9101UV when measurements need to extend into the ultraviolet while retaining the miniature platform.

Choose ATP9101W when the application requires wider spectral coverage through 1700 nm, including information beyond the range of a conventional VNIR instrument.

For all three configurations, define the target size, measurement distance and required footprint before choosing the field-of-view optic. Reflectance applications should also confirm the appropriate reference panel and measurement sequence.

Why Source Through ScienceGears

ScienceGears can review the required spectral range, target type, viewing geometry, reference method, field-of-view optics and software workflow before the configuration is finalised. This helps researchers in Australia and New Zealand choose the appropriate ATP9101 variant rather than paying for unnecessary spectral range or selecting a configuration that does not cover the required features.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between ATP9101, ATP9101UV and ATP9101W?

The main difference is wavelength coverage and detector architecture. ATP9101 covers 400–900 nm, ATP9101UV extends from 200–1000 nm, and ATP9101W extends from 200–1700 nm using CMOS and InGaAs detection.

Is ATP9101W now a confirmed product?

Yes. ATP9101W is a current wideband member of the family and is positioned for measurements extending from the ultraviolet through visible and near-infrared regions to 1700 nm.

Can the ATP9101 Series measure reflectance?

Yes, when the instrument is used with an appropriate reference standard and a consistent target/reference measurement procedure. The detector records spectral intensity; reflectance is derived by comparing the target response with the reference.

Which field of view should I select?

The appropriate field of view depends on target size and working distance. Narrow optics help isolate smaller targets, while wider optics collect from a larger surface area and can simplify measurement of broad homogeneous targets.

Is ATP9101 a hyperspectral camera?

No. It is a point spectroradiometer. It records a spectrum from a defined measurement footprint rather than creating a spatial hyperspectral image cube.

When should I choose ATP9101W instead of ATP9101?

Choose ATP9101W when spectral information beyond 900 nm is important or when a wider 200–1700 nm range and more integrated field operation are required.
