Longer GS Series General Speed Peristaltic Pumps

Longer GS Series General Speed Peristaltic Pumps

Touchscreen speed-controlled pumps for laboratory liquid transfer, circulation and timed delivery

Overview

The Longer GS Series General Speed Peristaltic Pumps are touchscreen-operated, adjustable-speed pumping systems for laboratory liquid transfer, circulation and timed fluid delivery. The series comprises the GS200-1B, GS400-1B and GS650-1B, with maximum drive speeds of 200, 400 and 650 rpm respectively. Interchangeable pump heads and compatible tubing allow the systems to accommodate different flow requirements. The pumps also provide external-control and RS485 communication options for integration into suitable research and engineering equipment.

Operating Principle

GS Series pumps use a motor-driven peristaltic head to progressively compress flexible tubing, moving liquid through the tubing without exposing it to the drive mechanism.

The operator can configure motor speed through the touchscreen and physical keypad. Continuous mode supports ongoing transfer, while the timer mode enables repeated operation for defined periods.

The GS Series controls motor speed rather than a directly calibrated liquid flow rate. Actual delivery depends on the selected pump head, tubing dimensions, liquid properties and system resistance.

Key Features

  • Three speed ranges: GS200-1B, GS400-1B and GS650-1B provide maximum speeds of 200, 400 and 650 rpm respectively.

  • Fine speed adjustment: 0.01 rpm increments below 100 rpm and 0.1 rpm increments from 100 rpm upwards.

  • Speed accuracy: Manufacturer-specified ±0.1% motor-speed accuracy.

  • Touchscreen operation: 3.5-inch colour LCD with physical keypad controls.

  • Continuous and timed modes: Supports ongoing pumping and repeatable time-based operation.

  • Reversible rotation: Clockwise and counter-clockwise operation.

  • Remote control: Compatible external signals and footswitch operation.

  • Digital communication: RS485 interface supporting Modbus RTU or Longer OEM communication protocol.

  • Operational controls: Configurable user access, keypad/screen locking and rapid priming.

  • Flexible fluid path: Compatible with multiple pump-head and tubing configurations.

Compatible Pump Heads and Flow-Rate References

The GS Series supports several manufacturer-specified pump heads. Flow capability varies substantially with the selected head and tubing.

Pump head GS200-1B GS400-1B GS650-1B
YZ1515X, 3 rollers 730 mL/min 1,460 mL/min 2,350 mL/min
YZ2515X 530 mL/min 1,060 mL/min 1,730 mL/min
YZ25-13X / YZII25 1,000 mL/min 2,000 mL/min 3,250 mL/min
DG15-24 600 mL/min 1,200 mL/min 1,950 mL/min

These values are manufacturer's single-channel maximum reference flow rates for the specified configurations. They are not guaranteed delivery rates for every fluid or installation.

Model Selection

GS200-1B is appropriate where the required flow and pump-head configuration can be accommodated within a 200 rpm maximum drive speed.

GS400-1B provides a higher speed range for applications requiring additional pumping capacity.

GS650-1B provides the highest maximum speed in the family and supports greater reference flow rates with selected pump heads.

The GS200-1B is not necessarily the best choice for every low-flow application. Selection should also consider the available tubing sizes, head design, operating duration, allowable pulsation and control requirements.

Typical Applications

The Longer GS Series can be considered for:

  • Laboratory liquid circulation and transfer

  • Analytical equipment and experimental sampling systems

  • Controlled reagent feeding into compatible laboratory reactors

  • Electrochemical flow-cell research

  • Flow chemistry and laboratory process development

  • Teaching, method development and research instrumentation

Fluid-path compatibility must be verified for chemically aggressive electrolytes, solvents or other specialised liquids.

Integration and Configuration

The GS Series supports local operation and external control. Its RS485 communication interface can be used with appropriately configured control equipment.

External analogue signals, logic-control wiring and communication parameters should be checked against the relevant manufacturer documentation before integration.

When selecting a complete configuration, confirm the drive model, pump head, tubing material, required flow range, operating pressure and any optional control accessories.

For applications requiring calibrated flow-rate setting or programmed volume dispensing, the Longer GF or GD Series may be more appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the GS200-1B, GS400-1B and GS650-1B?

The primary difference is their maximum drive speed: 200, 400 and 650 rpm. Their maximum reference flow rates also differ when comparable compatible pump heads are fitted.

Does the GS Series provide flow-rate calibration?

No. The GS Series primarily controls motor speed. For applications requiring direct calibrated flow-rate settings, consider the GF Series.

Can the GS Series perform repeated dispensing?

The series provides time-based operation for repeatable pumping periods. However, timed pumping should not be confused with calibrated volumetric dispensing.

Can the GS Series be operated remotely?

Yes. It provides compatible external-control inputs and RS485 communication supporting Modbus RTU or Longer OEM protocols.

Can different pump heads be fitted?

Yes. Several YZ, YZII, DG, DMD and FG pump-head configurations are supported. The exact compatibility and tubing requirements must be checked for the selected model.

Is the GS Series suitable for electrochemical flow experiments?

It may be appropriate where the required flow range, wetted materials, system pressure and pulsation characteristics are compatible with the experimental setup.

What information is required for a quotation?

Provide the liquid composition, minimum and maximum flow rate, intended operation, pump-head preference, tubing requirements, channel count and any external-control requirements.
