C65 Super C65 Conductive Carbon Black

C65 Super C65 Conductive Carbon Black

C65 Super C65 Conductive Carbon Black (C, CAS 1333-86-4) Powder

C65 Super C65 is a high-purity conductive carbon black used as a conductive additive in battery electrodes. When dispersed through the active-material/binder matrix, it forms an electronically percolating network that reduces contact resistance between particles, improving current distribution and power capability. This “Super C65 / SUP-C65” class of carbon black is widely used in Li-ion cathodes and anodes and is often specified as an equivalent to commonly referenced Super C65-grade conductive carbon blacks used in research and pilot-scale manufacturing.

Key specifications (typical)

  • BET surface area: ~61.2 m²/g
  • Moisture (as packed): ~0.1%
  • Carbon content: >99.5%
  • Low grit / coarse particles: >45 µm <2 ppm; >20 µm <7 ppm
  • Low impurities: sulphur ~0.023%, ash ~0.010%, Fe ~1.5 ppm
  • Specific resistance (50 kg/cm²): ~0.12–0.17 Ω·cm
  • pH: ~9.3

Why it matters in electrochemistry and battery testing

A well-selected carbon black improves:

  • Electronic conductivity at low loading, supporting high-rate charge/discharge
  • Electrode uniformity, reducing local overpotential hot-spots
  • Reproducibility in coin/pouch/prismatic lab builds for publishable data

Typical applications

  • Li-ion: NMC/NCA/LFP cathodes, graphite/Si-graphite anodes
  • Sodium-ion electrode development (conductive backbone in composite electrodes)
  • Conductive composites for supercapacitor and general electrochemical electrodes
