Super-P Conductive Carbon Black

Super-P Conductive Carbon Black (Super P) is a high-purity carbon black conductive agent designed to build a robust electronic percolation network in battery electrodes. When dispersed into cathode or anode slurries, the carbon black forms conductive pathways between active material particles, improving electron transport and enabling better utilisation of the active material—especially at higher current densities.

How it works in an electrode

In composite electrodes (active material + binder + conductive additive), Super P fills inter-particle gaps and creates a continuous conductive network after drying and calendaring. This reduces internal resistance and helps stabilise electrode polarisation during charge/discharge cycling.

Key specifications (typical)

  • BET surface area: ~63 m²/g
  • Density: ~160 kg/m³
  • Moisture: ~0.1%
  • Low ash and low volatile content for cleaner electrode chemistry
  • Trace metals controlled (important for sensitive cathode chemistries)
  • pH mildly alkaline (typical ~9)

Compatibility

  • Common binders: PVDF, CMC/SBR, PTFE (dry-process), and water-based systems
  • Electrode types: Li-ion cathodes (e.g., NCM, LFP) and anodes (graphite, Si–C blends)
  • Suitable for laboratory R&D through pilot-scale slurry coating

Typical applications

  • Li-ion pouch, cylindrical, and prismatic cell research
  • High-rate electrode formulation optimisation
  • Conductive network tuning alongside carbon nanotubes or graphene (hybrid additives)

Why choose ScienceGears

ScienceGears supports researchers with formulation guidance and end-to-end battery testing workflows—linking conductive additives with compatible coating tools, electrode processing accessories, and electrochemical test instruments (potentiostats/galvanostats, battery cyclers, and in-situ spectroscopy options where relevant).
