SBR-50 Polymerized Styrene Butadiene Rubber

SBR-50 Polymerized Styrene Butadiene Rubber

SBR-50 Styrene–Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Binder Emulsion

SBR-50 is a water-based styrene–butadiene rubber (SBR) latex binder designed for lithium-ion battery anode fabrication. It is supplied as a milky white liquid emulsion and is widely used to bind graphite (and graphite–silicon blends) to copper current collectors, improving coating integrity during drying and calendering.

Working mechanism

In aqueous anode slurries, SBR forms an elastic polymer network that enhances particle-to-particle and particle-to-foil adhesion. This flexibility helps accommodate mechanical stress from volume changes (especially in Si-containing anodes), supporting stable cycling performance and reduced electrode cracking.

Key specifications (typical / range)

  • Appearance: Milky white liquid emulsion
  • Total solids: 48–53 wt% (typical ~51.2 wt%)
  • pH: 5–7 (typical ~5.3)
  • Brookfield viscosity: 50–250 mPa·s (typical ~159 mPa·s)
  • Common pack size: 500 g / bottle (catalogue-dependent)

Compatibility & typical use

  • Optimised for water-based anode processing, commonly paired with CMC as a co-binder/thickener for slurry rheology control.
  • Suitable for graphite, hard carbon, and Si/graphite composite anodes.
