Overview
Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄, LFP) is an olivine-structured cathode active material widely used in lithium-ion batteries where thermal stability, long cycle life, and robust safety margins are essential. During charge/discharge, lithium ions reversibly intercalate/deintercalate within the LiFePO₄ framework (LiFePO₄ ⇄ FePO₄ + Li⁺ + e⁻), while the phosphate backbone helps maintain structural integrity under repeated cycling.

Compatibility and Typical Use
LFP powder is compatible with standard cathode slurry workflows (conductive carbon + binder + solvent), including coin cells, pouch cells, and cylindrical-cell research formats. It is commonly paired with graphite or lithium metal anodes and tested using battery cyclers; complementary electrochemical characterisation (e.g., rate capability, impedance, and interfacial studies) can be supported using potentiostats with EIS.
