Squidstat Penta Potentiostat/Galvanostat with FRA
Squidstat Penta overview
The Squidstat Penta is a single-channel potentiostat/galvanostat with an integrated frequency response analyser (FRA) for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). In potentiostatic mode, it precisely controls the working electrode potential vs reference and measures the resulting current; in galvanostatic mode, it controls current and tracks the resulting potential. The built-in FRA applies a small AC perturbation (voltage or current, depending on method) and measures the phase/amplitude response to quantify impedance across frequency—useful for charge transfer, double-layer behaviour, mass transport and equivalent circuit modelling.
Key specifications and instrument features
- Voltage scan range: ±10 V
- Maximum current: ±5 A
- EIS frequency range: 10 µHz to 2 MHz
- Low-current capability: best current accuracy down to 1 nA (useful for sensors and low-leakage systems)
- Onboard data backup: 16 GB internal memory for failsafe recovery
- Real-time control: adjust setpoints, OCP mode and sampling behaviour during runs
- Workflow: pre-built methods plus a drag-and-drop experiment builder (no coding required)
- Software & integration: compatible with Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu, with an API for automation
Compatibility and scaling
Designed for common electrochemical cell configurations (typical 2–5 electrode arrangements depending on setup). For higher throughput, you can scale to a multichannel test bench by running multiple Squidstat units from the same computer—handy for method development across replicates or parallel sample screening.
Typical applications
- Battery and supercapacitor research: formation studies, EIS health metrics, interfacial resistance tracking
- Corrosion and coatings: polarisation tests, EIS barrier performance, inhibitor studies
- Electrocatalysis: HER/OER/ORR screening, kinetic analysis with EIS support
- Sensors and bioelectrochemistry: low-current measurements and stability testing
Why researchers choose ScienceGears (AU & NZ)
ScienceGears supports instrument selection, training, and application fit—and can help pair the Squidstat Penta with related categories such as electrochemical cells, battery cyclers, and in-situ spectroscopy setups (for example Raman-SEC cells) to build a complete, publish-ready electrochemistry workflow.
