Zinc-Air Battery Test Cell – PTFE
The Zinc Air Battery Test Cell enables metal-air system research using zinc anodes and ambient oxygen cathodes. Stainless steel with PTFE/PEEK insulation, air inlet, and O-ring sealing supports φ16mm electrodes for ORR/OER catalyst and cycle testing.
Overview
The Zinc-Air Battery Test Cell – PTFE (Model SEB066) is a precision-machined laboratory cell designed for the development and evaluation of zinc–air and other metal–air battery chemistries. The body is manufactured from chemically resistant PTFE, ensuring low contamination, excellent alkali compatibility and long-term stability in electrochemical environments typically used for zinc anodes and air electrodes.
Construction and Electrode Interface
- Cell material: PTFE
- Cell volume options: 20 mL / 50 mL / 100 mL
- Electrode access: The lid can be drilled or machined to match the researcher’s electrode size, ensuring a tight, leak-minimising fit for custom working electrodes.
- Working electrode disc diameters: 14 mm (≈0.5 cm²) or 16 mm (≈1 cm²), thickness 1 mm
- Defined reaction areas: 0.5 cm² (Ø 8 mm) or 1 cm² (Ø 11.28 mm) for reproducible current-density calculations
The side port allows connection to gas or electrolyte lines depending on the experimental design, supporting air/oxygen exposure typical of zinc–air systems.
Typical Applications
- Performance testing of zinc–air primary and rechargeable concepts
- Comparison of different air-cathode catalysts and gas-diffusion layers
- Evaluation of zinc anode materials, corrosion inhibitors and electrolyte additives
- Education and method development in battery and electrochemistry laboratories
Key Advantages
