Fumasep Anion Exchange Membranes (AEM) – FAA-3 & FAB Series
Fumasep Anion Exchange Membranes – FAA-3 Range with FAB-PK-130
Overview
This product group brings together the most commonly used Fumasep anion exchange membranes (AEMs) for alkaline electrochemistry: the FAA-3 series in multiple thicknesses and the robust FAB-PK-130. All membranes in this group are designed to transport anions (typically OH⁻, HCO₃⁻ or CO₃²⁻) while separating anode and cathode compartments, making them ideal for alkaline fuel cells, AEM water electrolysers, CO₂ electroreduction cells and electrodialysis/separation systems. Grouping them under one page makes it easy for researchers to choose the right thickness and handling level without losing the technical distinctions between models.
Working Principle
Fumasep AEMs contain fixed cationic groups that attract and transport anions across the membrane when an electrical potential or concentration gradient is applied. Unlike PFSA (Nafion-type) PEMs, these membranes are intended for alkaline operation, enabling the use of non-precious catalysts, CO₂-derived electrolytes and low-cost system designs.
Available Variants (select in options):
- FAB-PK-130 (130 µm): general-purpose AEM, thicker and easier to seal; good for teaching rigs.
- FAA-3-PK-130 (130 µm): FAA-3 family, alkaline stable, robust handling.
- FAA-3-PK-75 (75 µm): lower resistance than 130 µm, still manageable in the lab.
- FAA-3-50 (50 µm): performance-oriented, needs accurate compression.
- FAA-3-30 (30 µm): very low ASR, suited to well-machined cells.
- FAA-3-20 (20 µm): ultra-thin for high current density studies; handle carefully.
- FAA-3-PE-30 (30 µm, reinforced): similar conductivity to 30 µm but better handling due to PE support.
