Nafion 212 Proton Exchange Membrane
Nafion 212 Proton Exchange Membrane – 50.8 µm
Overview
Nafion 212 is a mid-thickness (≈50.8 µm) PFSA membrane that balances conductivity, mechanical integrity and gas barrier properties. It is a versatile choice for most laboratory PEM fuel cell and electrolysis experiments.
Function
The perfluorinated matrix ensures oxidative and thermal stability, while the sulfonic acid domains form proton-conducting channels under hydrated conditions.
Key features
- 50.8 µm thickness – good compromise between 211 and 115
- Low area-specific resistance
- Suitable for cells upto 30 × 30 cm
- Compatible with common MEA fabrication methods
- Reliable for repeatable educational demonstrations
Applications
- General-purpose PEM fuel cell labs
- PEM water splitting
