Fumasep Cation Exchange Membranes – FKS & FKB Series
Fumasep Cation-Exchange Membranes for Acidic and Separation Cells
Overview
This product group includes the core Fumasep cation-exchange membranes (CEMs) used in acidic or neutral electrochemical systems: FKS-PET-130, FKS-30, FKS-50, FKS-PFT-75 and FKB-PK-130. All of them selectively conduct cations (H⁺, Na⁺, metal ions) while limiting bulk crossover, making them suitable for redox-flow batteries, acidic electrolysis, electrodialysis, metal-ion recovery and electro-organic synthesis. The main difference between models is thickness and reinforcement, which lets researchers tune resistance vs mechanical robustness.
Working Principle
Cation-exchange membranes contain fixed sulfonic acid groups. These fixed anionic sites allow positively charged ions to migrate through the membrane under an applied potential, while rejecting anions and helping to maintain electrolyte separation. This is essential for high Coulombic efficiency in flow batteries and for selective ion-removal processes.
Available Variants
- FKS-PET-130 (≈130 µm): PET-reinforced for dimensional stability and repeated assembly in lab cells.
- FKS-30 (30 µm): thin, low ASR membrane for compact cells; requires careful sealing.
- FKS-50 (50 µm): balanced option between performance and handling.
- FKS-PFT-75 (75 µm): robust CEM for electrochemical separation and flow applications.
- FKB-PK-130 (≈130 µm): thicker, mechanically strong CEM for larger active areas and longer runs.
