NC700 Ultrafine Proton Exchange Membrane
NC700 Ultrafine Proton Exchange Membrane – 15 µm
Overview
NC700 is an ultra-thin proton-conducting membrane around 15 µm thick, intended for research where the lowest possible ohmic drop is required. Such thin membranes are ideal for high-current, well-humidified systems and short-duration test work.
Mechanism
The membrane transports protons through hydrated ionic clusters but, due to its low thickness, must be supported by accurate compression and leak-free sealing.
Key features
- Extremely low thickness (~15 µm)
- Very low area-specific resistance
- Enables high current density at moderate temperatures
- Best suited to precision-built PEM or MEA cells
- Requires careful handling to avoid creasing or tearing
Applications
- Advanced PEM fuel cell studies
- Electrolysis stack concept testing
- Educational demonstrations of resistance vs thickness
- Comparative membrane screening
Why ScienceGears
We can recommend gasket thickness, clamping hardware and complementary instruments so researchers in Australia & New Zealand can run reproducible tests.
