Bottom Welding and Grooving Machine for Cylindrical Cells

Bottom Welding and Grooving Machine for Cylindrical Cell Assembly

The Bottom Welding and Grooving Machine for Cylindrical Cells is a semi-automatic production system designed for two critical steps in cylindrical battery assembly: bottom spot welding and can grooving. In this process, the cell is transferred into the welding position, where the bottom tab or internal connection is welded to the cell can base, after which the cell is moved to the grooving station for controlled formation of the can groove near the mouth of the steel shell. This integrated workflow supports improved positional consistency, smoother material handling, and more efficient pilot-scale or pre-production cell assembly. It is offered for cylindrical formats including 18650, 21700, 26650 and 32650 with suitable die changes.

Applications and Compatibility

This machine is well suited to lithium-ion, sodium-ion and related cylindrical cell R&D lines, pilot production facilities, and battery manufacturing environments where repeatable mechanical forming and electrical joining are required. It is particularly useful after jelly-roll insertion and before final sealing operations, helping researchers and engineers maintain better dimensional uniformity and electrical connection quality across batches. It can be paired with related ScienceGears solutions such as cylindrical winding machines, electrolyte filling systems, crimping and sealing equipment, and battery cyclers for a more complete cell fabrication workflow.

Why Choose ScienceGears
