KTQ-100 Micrometer Doctor Blade Applicator
KTQ-100 Micrometer Doctor Blade Applicator (100 mm)
The KTQ-100 Micrometer Doctor Blade Applicator is a precision drawdown tool designed to produce uniform wet films on flat substrates. It is widely used for ceramic tape casting and slurry coating for battery electrodes, enabling controlled layer thickness at lab scale for repeatable materials development.
Principle of operation
This applicator uses a precision-ground doctor blade and two micrometer heads to set a defined blade–substrate gap. As the blade is drawn across the substrate, the slurry (or ink/paste) is spread into a controlled wet layer. The resulting wet thickness is primarily governed by the set gap, slurry rheology, and draw speed, making it ideal for rapid formulation screening and process optimisation.
Key specifications and build
- Blade material: 304 stainless steel (precision ground edge)
- Frame material: aluminium alloy
- Micrometer adjustment resolution/accuracy: ~10 µm
- Wet film thickness range: 0–3500 µm
- Coating width options (platform-dependent): 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 mm
Typical compatibility and applications
Suitable for coating onto glass plates, stainless sheets, polymer films, and metal foils (e.g., current collectors) for:
- Lithium-ion battery electrode R&D (cathode/anode slurries)
- Ceramic green tape preparation
- Functional coatings (conductive, catalytic, protective layers)
Why source it through ScienceGears
ScienceGears supports researchers with end-to-end workflow alignment—pair this applicator with slurry mixing, drying, calendaring/roller pressing, coin-cell assembly tools, and electrochemical test systems (potentiostats and battery cyclers) to streamline electrode development from coating to performance validation.
